Day 6a (29 Palms, CA to Bakersfield, CA: Joshua Tree and WIND!)

Ok, while yesterday's ride was, well.... unnerving due to vast open spaces, today's ride was 100x MORE unnerving due to the WIND that I had to fight. I had to lean so hard to the right (to keep going straight) that had there NOT been any wind, I think I would have just gone in circles!

Anyway, the day started off pretty neat (and fun) with a trip through Joshua Tree state park (with a little dirt trail). Then I worked my way towards Lancaster, CA (looking for the "music road" - never found it) and then up to Bakersfield, CA (not the best venue, but.... it had to do)

---------------

Joshua Tree State Park:

Yes, this is a dirt (rather SAND) road!

Found this guy (tortoise) while in JTSP. The coyote and lizards I saw were TOO fast for me and my camera:

Figured I take a pic of the bike while taking pic of tortoise (he is in bottom right):

More open roads (with funny rocks in the background):

A single wind turbine. I wonder how much of a difference THAT really makes?

They call me "The Sheep Whisperer":

I coudl not pass up this photo op:

And this is the REAL SCARY PART (TRAFFIC!!):

Some nice CA foot hills (I guess I missed the "green" season):

It was SOOO windy today that this lake had WHITE CAPS!:
